Native Bound Unbound
The Archive of Indigenous Slavery

Dr. Estevan Rael-Gálvez is executive director of Native Bound Unbound: Archive of Indigenous Slavery, a Mellon Foundation initiative that is documenting Indigenous slavery across the Americas.
Rael-Gálvez will detail the digital repository that he is creating centered on the lives of enslaved Indigenous people across the Americas. He'll explain how descendants, educators, scholars, artists, and storytellers can use the collection, and show how it holds potential for transcendence and healing.

During Fall and Spring semesters of 2024-2025, public history graduate students will research and design a second project for the California Surfing Multiple Property documentation project with funding from a new CESU grant from the National Park Service Community Partners Program. This second research phase will result in a set of ArcGIS Story Maps of exceptionally significant historic sites associated with the development of California surfing.
