In the Fall 2024, public history graduate students assisted in the research, curation, and installation of an Holocaust exhibition at the Govenor’s Office in Las Vegas. Under the direction of professor Greg Brown and in collaboration with Nevada Center for Humanity’s founder Heidi Straus, the students will work in various public history methodologies: digital history; material culture; oral history; film; autobiography and memoir; and historic preservation through sites of remembrance and museums.

“The Holocaust: Reconstructing Shattered Humanity” is on display at the office of Gov. Joe Lombardo (1 State of Nevada Way, Las Vegas). The exhibit runs through March 13, and guided tours are offered twice weekly by appointment on Wednesday (10 a.m.-noon) and Thursday (1-3 p.m.). To schedule a tour, contact Heidi Straus at heidi.straus@unlv.edu or contact@nchnevada.org

During Fall and Spring semesters of 2024-2025, public history graduate students will research and design a second project for the California Surfing Multiple Property documentation project with funding from a new CESU grant from the National Park Service Community Partners Program. This second research phase will result in a set of ArcGIS Story Maps of exceptionally significant historic sites associated with the development of California surfing.
