Students earning an M.A. in History have the option to minor in public history with an emphasis on musuem studies, historic preservation, and digital history. Working through the Reid Public History Institute, our community-engagement initiatives train teachers, curators, archivists, entrepreneurs, and
PhD-bound scholars.
Students complete four semesters of coursework and a public history internship. M.A. students choose between a thesis and non-thesis track. Our public history initiatives are always built with opportunities for student engagement and all of our students work on real-world projects in active collaboration with our partners as part of their regular coursework and in paid internships. Our graduates go on to work in the field and we have placed students at The Neon Museum, The Charles M. Schultz Museum, The National Park Service, The Bureau of Reclamation, the Burlesque Hall of Fame, The Nevada State Museum, and the many more. We’ve also placed MA students in PhD programs including William & Mary and the University of California, Santa Barbara.
