Our PhD in History offers the option to minor in public history. This degree attracts students from a range of backgrounds including law, gender studies, economics, education, and film. Our doctoral students learn how to think analytically about the past, conduct archival research, and publish scholarship.
Our public history initiatives are always built with student engagement opportunities and all of our students have the opportunity to work on real-world projects in active collaboration with our partners as part of their regular coursework. Our PhD graduates have gone on to work at universities such as Texas A&M, University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and Colorado State University. Others work as museum directors, executive directors of historic preservation organizations, secondary school teachers, and administrators of history organizations.
